SCHWEITZER Albert [Kaysersberg, 1875 - Lambaréné,... - Lot 193 - Varenne Enchères
SCHWEITZER Albert [Kaysersberg, 1875 - Lambaréné, Gabon, 1965], French theologian, musician, musicologist and missionary doctor. Set of autograph letters, on the same sheet: - Autograph letter from Albert Schweitzer; 2 pages in-8°. "Mister ambassador, dear friend. The days of November last year come back to me in this new November. I think of you a lot. You have been so good to me. I owe you much gratitude. How much time you have sacrificed to me... instead of my thoughts looking for you where I knew you, they must look for you in the troubled, problematic Middle East. I hope that you will find yourself there as well as possible and that your wife and children are doing well. I am in Paris to attend the Academy and finish a manuscript. I have just come from England where I spent a week. Towards mid-December I embarked again for Lambaréné, happy to find solitude there and to be able to devote myself to the work that awaits me there. The village of the lepers was finished on the Saturday before Pentecost. -Autograph letter signed by Emmy Martin, addressed to the Baroness d'Halloy. Paris, October 27, 1955; 1 1/2 pages in-8°. "Dear Madam, I think with nostalgia of you in Oslo, of your so charming welcome a year ago. And now you are far from us, and we have not had the joy of seeing you again in Gersbach with your children. I hoped a little that you would come, because I knew that you were in England with your children. The doctor is already thinking about his return. He embarked in Bordeaux on December 16. This stay was terribly tiring for him. We had visits from all over the world.
