-"The Birdcatcher", a superb, large and rare papier-mâché music automaton. Represents a court dwarf, dressed in a superb 17th century costume, who opened the cage for a songbird and gives it a singing lesson. Manufacturer not determined with certainty, it could be Alexandre THEROUDE, complex mechanics with bellows. Movements of the head, eyes and lips, fingers on the clarinet and the bird on his shoulder turning his head and singing. H 1.90m with its 0.90m base (circa 1865) "The bird trainer" Very rare French unknown automaton representing a Court Dwarf, 17thc costume,,, standing on a wooden base, who open a cage to a singing bird an give him a singing lesson. Paper mâché and fabric. Moving glass eyes and lips. Many movements and several music. Complex mechanical with bellows. Probably Alexandre Nicholas THEROUDE.(1865)H total 96".H character 40".Movements:the bird trainer nods, turns his head, moves his lips, blinks his eyes and brings the flute to his mouth, as he plays the flute his fingers moves, then removing the flute from his lips he awaits the birds repeating the song, the bird takes its turn, turning its head from side to side and than teasingly, shirping.
